Contest Rules and Inspiration
ABOUT THE CONTEST

What do you love about your public library!? How would you express that in a drawing or design? Can you inspire other teens to experience the wonderful world of your library this summer!?

Design a poster for the 2012 Teen Summer Library Experience and your artwork could be selected to appear on the 2012 Teen Summer Library Experience posters, bookmarks, brochures, or other promotional items, and the Marigold Library System teen website!

Entries will be judged on relevancy, creativity, originality, and whether or not the artwork will translate well onto promotional items.

THE PRIZES!
Up to 3 artwork entries may be selected by Marigold Library System to be included on our promotional materials for the 2012 Teen Summer Library Experience! The teen who submits the winning entry will receive a $150 gift card for CrossIron Mills. Up to 2 Runner-Up entries may be selected to win a $50 gift card for CrossIron Mills.

HOW TO ENTER
If you are a teen between the ages of 12 and 18, and you have a library card from a Marigold member library, you are eligible to enter this contest!

The Poster Art Contest begins now and ends on February 29, 2012.

To enter your artwork, design a poster no bigger than 8.5 inches x 11 inches (the size of regular paper).

Complete the submission form and drop off the form with your work at any Marigold Library System public library (see www.marigold.ab.ca for a list of Marigold public libraries). Attach the form to your original work. If you want a copy of your work, please make a copy for yourself before you submit your artwork, as Marigold does not return submissions.

All entries are to be received at your Marigold public library with the entry form dated no later than February 29, 2012. You may submit multiple entries, but you must complete a separate entry form for every piece of artwork you submit.

WHAT KIND OF POSTER ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Make a poster no bigger than 8.5 inches x 11 inches (regular size paper). You may choose to include the words “Teen Summer Library Experience 2012” in your poster, but please note words are not required in your artwork.

We will accept posters with sketches, drawings, paintings, photographs, and other 2-dimensional media such as digital designs; since we cannot accept electronic submissions, you will need to color print digital designs on 8 ½ x 11 paper in order to submit them. Artwork that includes copyrighted materials or trademarked logos will be disqualified. If you include another person’s personal image in your Poster Art, you must inform that person of your intent to submit the Poster Art and sign the area of the submission form that indicates you have informed that person of your intent.

The submission of your artwork constitutes your agreement to the Poster Art Contest Terms & Conditions, so please read them! If you have any questions please contact the Teen Coordinator at TeenMLS@marigold.ab.ca or by phone at Marigold Library System in Strathmore at 403-934-5334 (www.marigold.ab.ca).

HELPFUL HINTS TO INSPIRE YOU!

The 2012 Teen Summer Library Experience is about exactly that: it’s teens, it’s summer fun, it’s about discovering your library through an experience! What do you love the most about your library? Hanging with friends? Checking our new books, DVDs, or CDs? Gaming? Going online and checking out blogs, Facebook, or other favorite sites? Finding an empty chair and reading or listening to music? How do you experience your library?

What images do the following phrases bring to mind?

Libraries are a great place for teens to find out more about favorite hobbies and interests;

Teens who read for fun have better grades and are more likely to succeed at work;

Libraries are a place to discover new worlds!

The library can provide you with resources to help you complete homework or personal projects;

Libraries are a safe space to go hang out with friends or family;

At the library, teens have an opportunity to interact with people from different backgrounds and demographics;

Libraries are a cultural space where teens meet, learn, play, read, listen and explore! We look forward to seeing your poster!

POSTER ART CONTEST TERMS & CONDITIONS

The artwork must be your own original creation in its entirety: no borrowing, copying, tracing, stealing, or copyrighted or trademarked images.

All entries become the property of Marigold Library System and will not be returned. If you want to keep a copy of your artwork, please make a copy before you submit it. The artwork from the Grand Prize winner and any Runners-Up can and will be used by Marigold Library System in promotional materials including, but not limited to, 2012 Teen Summer Library Experience promotional materials, the Marigold teen website, Marigold publications, Marigold article submissions to third party publications and the Marigold website. Marigold reserves the right to modify submitted artwork as needed, and to use artwork from more than one entry on the same document. All winners still retain the rights to use and publish their own artwork.

Entries will be judged by staff members of the Marigold Library System. Entries will be evaluated based on relevancy, creativity, originality, and whether or not the artwork will translate well into a poster. The judges’ decisions are final. Marigold Library System reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, or modify the Contest if, for any reason, the Contest is not able to be completed as planned. If the Contest is cancelled for any reason, a Grand Prize winner will be selected from among all entries received prior to cancellation and a Grand Prize will be awarded. Marigold Library System reserves the right to decline to publish the Grand Prize winning entry and any Runner-Up entries.

By submitting artwork, each contestant releases Marigold Library System and its respective directors, officers, employees, and agents from any and all liability and demands of any kind arising from or in connection with the Contest, including, without limitation, responsibility for property damages, loss of life, or personal injury resulting from or in connection with participating in the Contest, from or in connection with use or receipt of the prizes, or while preparing for, participating in, and/or traveling to or from any prize-related activity, however caused. Neither Marigold Library System - nor its member libraries - is responsible for any damages, taxes, or expenses that winners might incur as a result of this Contest or receipt of prize.

Marigold Library System reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any person who acts in violation of these Contest Terms & Conditions.

Contestants must comply with these rules, and will be deemed to have received and understood the rules if they participate in the Poster Art Contest and have signed an entry form.

PRIZES AND PRIZE CONDITIONS:

ELIGIBILITY: This Contest is open to teens with a Marigold library card that are between 12 and 18 years of age when they submit their artwork and entry form to the Contest.  Not sure if your public library is a Marigold library? A list of Marigold member libraries can be found at www.marigold.ab.ca.

One (1) Grand Prize winner will be selected and will receive a $150 gift card for CrossIron Mills. Marigold Library System may choose to select up to two (2) additional Runner-Up winners; each Runner-Up winner would receive a $50 gift card for CrossIron Mills. Marigold Library System reserves the right to decline to select Runner-Up winners.

Prizes may not be exchanged or redeemed for cash, sold, or traded. No prize transfer, assignment, or substitution by winners is permitted. Marigold reserves the right to substitute a prize, in which case a prize of equal or greater value will be awarded. Winners will be notified by their own public library by March 15, 2012. If the public library is not able to locate the winner within seven (7) days, the prize may be forfeited, and Marigold reserves the right to select an alternate winner from among the remaining eligible entries.

Winners that have been contacted to claim a prize from their public library may be asked to provide proof that they are between the ages of 12-18. An entrant is not a winner until the contestant’s eligibility has been verified. Marigold Library System reserves the right to terminate the Contest without awarding any prizes if no eligible winners claim the prizes within the required time. Winners agree to the use of their first names in promotional materials and websites issued by Marigold Library System without any additional compensation (except where prohibited). It may further use the personal information to contact the potential winners. Marigold Library System will protect contestant’s personal information under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP). As noted under Prizes and Prize Conditions, Marigold may publish contestant’s first names, the fact that winners won, and details about the contest. Marigold will be required to share winner’s names and contact information with the contestant’s public library in order to deliver any prize. In turn, each Marigold Library System member public library promoting and participating in the Poster Art Contest is responsible for protecting contestant’s personal information.
